In a unique collaboration between Fierce! and the Royal Shakespeare Company we will be recording a series of everyday public service announcements for broadcast across a wide range of public spaces in Birmingham and Stratford upon-Avon: including shopping centres, train and bus stations, sports stadia and schools. The announcements will be recorded and broadcast by RSC Associate artists whose distinct voices are easily recognisable.
But here’s the rub! All of the announcements will be spoken in the basis of Shakespeare’s verse and the natural meter of English narrative poetry – Blank Verse.
Examples of announcements in Blank Verse
These were created by staff in the Fierce office. We’re sure you can do better…
The train to Stratford stops at platform nine,
First class coaches are half way down the line
Now is the winter of our discount tents
Rooney has scored with a pass sublime,
But get the pies in now — for it’s half-time!
And here’s how you can get involved
While some of the announcements will be written by the Royal Shakespeare’s team of writers, two announcements will be selected by a judging panel of theatre experts through a public competition. The winning entries will then be recorded by an RSC Associate artist and broadcast in public over the summer.
Imagine the thrill of hearing your own recording broadcast in public and listened to by thousands.
How do I enter?
